We started Glass Pendants & More in 2008 as a way to give struggling single moms and others a chance to get out of the cycle of poverty. It has turned out to be a surprisingly lot of just plain fun.
As a small business (just two people), we work with other small businesses and artists to offer you a wider selection of products.
One of our most popular products is the bracelet with the wide beads strung onto a thick snake-chain. Variations include bangles and ribbons. We also offer necklaces, earrings, rings, key chains and even pens made with the beads.
What they are: They're beads with a 4.5-millimeter center hole. They're usually shaped somewhat like doughnuts, but they also come in shapes like tiny figurines. You can get a Santa Claus, snowman or penguin shape for the winter, or a puppy, a purse, a heart or even a goat. The beads usually have little metal grommets on them, one on each side, to protect the edges of the doughnut-holes...or maybe it's to protect us from their sharp edges...or maybe it's just to look nice. There are metal spacer-beads and beads that look a lot like the spacers but have charms dangling from them. The regular beads are usually made of glass or porcelain, but they also come in wood and plastic. Their metal grommets are usually white: it's unusual to find yellow metal associated with this kind of jewelry.
The brands: The name you probably hear most is Pandora. Other brands include Chamilia and Biagi. Kay Jewelers has their own brand, called Charmed Memories. But no matter what name they wear, the feature that sets them apart is the size of the hole in the middle of the bead. Regular beads have much narrower holes: the hole in this type of bead is about 4.5 millimeters. Check the size of the hole, and you don't have to wonder whether a particular bead will fit.
